Meanwhile Use Housing
Pacific Link Housing and Women’s Community Shelters have partnered to deliver ‘Meanwhile Use’ Housing in Lake Macquarie.
‘Meanwhile Use’ housing refers to the temporary use of a property while owners decide on their long-term plans.
Tingira House provides a secure, welcoming environment for older women facing housing insecurity. It offers 20 private, fully furnished rooms with ensuite bathrooms, along with shared kitchen, laundry, and living spaces.
How It Works
Residents are offered an initial three-month lease, with the option to extend up to 18 months depending on individual circumstances. Throughout their stay, residents are supported to secure permanent housing through tailored assistance from Pacific Link Housing and Women’s Community Shelters.
Safety and Security
Women’s Community Shelters provide limited on-site support, with staff available at varying hours during the week. To maintain a safe and supportive environment, no male visitors are permitted at the properties. Additional visiting rules and house conditions apply to ensure the wellbeing of all residents.
Eligibility
Tingira House supports women aged 55 and over (or aged 45 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women) who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Residents must be able to live independently with minimal support. Unfortunately, Tingira is not suitable for women with unmanaged mental health concerns, substance dependency, or high support needs.
Affordable Rent
Rent is calculated based on a percentage of each resident’s total gross income, making this housing both safe and financially accessible.
